Wrecker (2015)

This one should have been a shoe-in, okay? I’m a sucker for highway horror. The original Hitcher remains one of my all time favorite horror movies, and I’m a huge fan of Fury Road. And it’s really hard to go wrong with this subgenre – pick a few of your favorite elements, mix well, and add cheese. What could go wrong?

With Wrecker, I’m sad to report the answer: just about everything. The pacing is awful, the writing flat, the story is full of stereotypes and plot holes, none of the characters are interesting, and – worst of all for this kind of movie – the chase scenes are boring and repetitive. This isn’t even a good B movie. It pretends to have a sense of humor, but each joke falls flat, there’s no emotional payoff of any kind, and the movie replays every tired stereotype in the book without doing anything interesting with them.

Skip it. Watch Hitcher again. Original or remake, I don’t care, they’re both miles better than this.
